Maui and the Sun

Check out our amazing Maui and the Sun paintings. We read the myth about how Maui and his brothers fought the sun and made slow down. We know that myths were a way people tried to explain how their world worked a long time ago. We spent a lot of time on our paintings; practicing shapes, sketching out design ideas and painting with water colour paints. We're very proud of the finished works of art.

Kaitlin's Bunny Rabbit by Jorja

Sinking down low into the long swaying grass, "Found it!" I said. I found the creature finally. Oh, it's just a plastic bag. "Who litters in this city? I'm calling the police!"
"Dad be quiet for once," I said.
I see a bunny rabbit. Peoowww!
"Shot it!" yells Dad.
"You're a bunny murderer! I was going to give that bunny to Kaitlin. You know how much she likes bunnies."
I'll have to catch another one now.

My Super Parents by Timothy

One day I was walking home from school until I was in the middle of the road and I heard a loud siren. I turned and a police car hit me and I was hanging on the siren. They were going at least 200 km/hr. I felt like there was about 20 or maybe 30 police cars behind me. Why are there so many police cars after one person? I know. It must be because of my dad. He's a super-criminal and I was on the Chief of Police's car. My mum was a superhero. They were in battle. Then I only just heard some kind of jey fly past. Wait, that's no jet. That's my mum wearing tights!

Room 3’s Report

To the BOT

We have been learning about science. Our topic was space. We learnt about the stars, solar system and other stuff. Also we’ve been learning about passing and catching in P.E. We read about Maui and the Sun and made some bright pictures about it. Sometimes we talk about our feelings in quality circle time. We learnt how to make paper planes and make them land slowly. The new computers are working really well. We have made comics on them. When the cross country was coming up, we had to do an eight minute run. Once we had to do the super sevens. It was excellent. We’ve been learning how to play Miss Leishman’s version of ball tag. The donkeys group has been learning their nine times tables.

"When are we there Dad?"
"Soon."
By the time we got to Rarotonga it was midnight. The hotel where we were staying was called the Rarotongan. In the morning my brother woke everyone up. After breakfast I went kyaking. After that we went to the pool. My little brother fell in the pool. When we got home he got a growling. In the morning we went to the beach. I went snorkelling. I saw heaps of fish and I saw some eels. I went over a big rock with coral on it. I pulled a bit off. When I was swimming I caught a needle fish. It poked me in the hand. Then I got out of the sea. After that I went into the pool. It was Scarlett's birthday that day. The only meal Angus and I had was fish and chips. We had a good flight home but the Wellington airport was closed so the flight was cancelled. So we flew home the next day.

Katie's Birthday

Tomorrow we are going to Katie’s house at 1:00 o’clock. At 2:00 o’clock we are going to Daytona.  At 1:00 at night we will go to bed. When it is time to do the cake we will go to the big table and sing the happy birthday song to Katie. After the cake we get to eat any  kind of food that’s on the table. The food is going to be yummy. I wonder what kind of cake it’s going to be. I hope it’s going to be a chocolate cake.  cake is yummy in my tummy.

When it’s time for bed I am going straight to sleep because I will be so tired. I said to myself that “What’s for tea” . I hope we get kfc or lone star or something else “I wonder what”. “In the morning we get to go home whenever I don’t want to go home straight away  I might go home at 7:00 o’ clock or 6:00 o’clock or 7:30 or 6:30 I wonder what time I will go home.

When we rang Katie to ask what to bring for the sleep over Viv said to bring a sleeping bag and a pillow. I decided to bring a toy just in case.  I might not bring a toy I thought.

Chloe's Comic

Chloe is working on a comic too. Her's is about a curious cat who wanders into a rocklet and ends up blasting off into space.

The Broken Crown

 Ava is working on a comic called, "The Broken Crown." She wrote the story in her draft book then planned her comic. She's drawing her pictures in Kidpix and making her comic in Comic Life. It's going very well. This is her first picture. It's of the evil frog king.

Cross Country

Our school cross-country was held on Friday.

We were very excited before the race.

Term 2

Rosie brought a cow's tail in for news this morning! She also brought in a rubber glove so that she could show us without touching it herself.

We're reading The Dark Blue One Hundred Ride Bus Ticket by Margaret Mahy. Today we drew dowlers. They're the bad guys in the story.

We have enjoyed working with our cricket coaches this term. We learnt a lot. So much, in fact, that we were able to play a game a cricket in our final session today.

William's Cave Story

Deep, deep down in a cave were two miners looking for treasure. Soon they hit something hard that they couldn’t drill through. So they set a bomb on it and ran out of the cave. Then there was a big boom and the bomb was gone. Behind it was a secret tunnel leading for miles. So the miners had to sprint down the tunnel with their jackhammers. Finally they came to the end of the tunnel. They started drilling and then they found the treasure. Back they went, down the tunnel. But, just before they reached the exit there was an evil dragon that ate them all up and kept the treasure for himself.

Timothy's Lunch

Timothy had an enormous slice of watermelon for lunch yesterday.

Kaitlin wrote this story before school on Tuesday.

One afternoon I said let’s go and look for some treasure.  I have got the treasure map  right in my hand.  We have to catch the ferry to the South Island. We have to go right now. So hurry up, the ferry is leaving in half an hour  and we need to pack our bags. Oh I am so tired  from packing my bag so fast. I just need 1 minute to have a little sleep…

Wake up we have missed the trip. We will do it tomorrow.

Fun Run

On Friday the 25^th of February we had a fun run at school. Room 2 and room 3 had to do 2 laps around the field. I was a clown. My face was painted like a clown face. When I came into the class no one knew who I was. I got soaking wet when I went on the water slide because there was a hose squirting every one going past.

Suspension Bridges - How are they built?

We were talking today about what we know about the old Opiki toll bridge today. We learnt a lot by observing the bridge and talking to family members about it. There are a lot of things we don't know as well. We came up with a huge list of questions about the bridge, including questions about how it was built. Tip toe, tip toe, tip toe. Boo! Out of the shadows jumped two ghosts and a hairy monster! They chased after me. They were as big as a house. It was the most terrifying thing in your life. I wished I’d never gone into the haunted castle, but it was too late now. I was in trouble. Suddenly three monsters appeared in the other direction. I was doomed.

On Wednesday I am going to the top of New Zealand and it will be fun. We will go fishing for marlin on a boat. We are driving to the top of New Zealand and it will be fun but it is a long way to go. We might see aunty and we might stay in a motel. We are going with dad’s friends.
